Children with Cancer

Last night we watched the first programme in the second series about Great Ormond Street Hospital – I was not sure whether I wanted to as it was about children and cancer ( though I’m addicted to anything medical – even Embarrassing Bodies) It seemed a bit close to home to me.

It was fascinating and sad – the fact that the treatments are often so toxic that they end up killing the patient is a sobering thought and the fact that the treatment itself might save the child but leave them in a wheelchair and unable to blossom as they might have done – on top of which is the prospect of recurrence. Added to this awful rock and a hard place dilemma is the scary quackery of doctors in the US offering expensive treatments which the parents feel they would never forgive themselves if they didn’t try.

Do watch it on iPlayer if you missed it and perhaps you might like to look at the website for Timmy’s Trust (link on next post)
